Description

A classic Italian seafood dish featuring tender seared tuna simmered in a rich tomato and caper sauce, delivering bold Mediterranean flavors.


Ingredients

  • 400 g tuna steak
  • 300 g canned tomatoes (crushed or chopped)
  • 50 g capers, drained
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Pat the tuna steaks dry and season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Sear the tuna for 1–2 minutes per side until lightly browned, then remove and set aside.
  4. Reduce heat to medium and add remaining olive oil.
  5. Sauté minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Add canned tomatoes and stir, scraping the pan to release flavor.
  7. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  8. Add capers and mix well.
  9. Return tuna to the pan and spoon sauce over it.
  10. Cook gently for 2–4 minutes until desired doneness.
  11. Serve warm with sauce.

Notes

  • Do not overcook tuna to keep it tender.
  • Add chili flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Black olives can enhance the Mediterranean flavor.
  • Fresh herbs like parsley or basil can be added before serving.
