Description

Tiramisu Cream Puffs are elegant Italian-inspired pastries made with crisp choux pastry shells filled with fluffy mascarpone cream and espresso flavor, then finished with a dusting of cocoa powder for a classic tiramisu touch.

Ingredients

  • 150 g water
  • 100 g unsalted butter
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 150 g all-purpose flour
  • 4 to 5 eggs
  • 500 g mascarpone cheese
  • 200 g heavy cream
  • 120 g granulated sugar
  • 20 to 30 ml cooled espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 teaspoon instant espresso powder (optional)
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Add the flour all at once and stir quickly with a wooden spoon for about 2 minutes until the dough forms a smooth ball.
  4. Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough becomes glossy and smooth.
  6. Pipe or spoon small mounds of dough onto the prepared baking tray, leaving space between each puff.
  7. Bake for 35 minutes without opening the oven door.
  8. Turn off the oven, crack the door slightly open, and let the cream puffs rest inside for 5 minutes before cooling completely on a rack.
  9. To prepare the filling, beat mascarpone, heavy cream, and sugar together until thick and fluffy.
  10. Divide the cream into two bowls. Mix the espresso and optional espresso powder into one half.
  11. Slice the cooled cream puffs in half or make a small hole underneath for piping.
  12. Fill each cream puff with both creams to create a marbled tiramisu effect.
  13. Dust generously with unsweetened cocoa powder.
  14. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Do not open the oven door early while baking or the cream puffs may collapse.
  • For crispier shells, store unfilled pastry shells separately and fill just before serving.
  • Add extra espresso powder for a stronger coffee flavor.
  • Mini cream puffs make elegant bite-sized desserts for parties and celebrations.
  • Use unsweetened cocoa powder for the most authentic tiramisu flavor.
