Description
A classic Italian frozen dessert made with layers of ice cream, a surprise filling, and a crisp chocolate shell coating.
Ingredients
- 2 cups chocolate ice cream, slightly softened
- 2 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
- 1/2 cup pitted cherries or chocolate ganache
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder or finely chopped nuts
Instructions
- Line a small bowl with plastic wrap, leaving overhang.
- Press chocolate ice cream into the bottom and sides to form a shell.
- Add a spoonful of cherries or ganache in the center.
- Cover with vanilla ice cream and smooth the top.
- Wrap and freeze for at least 2 hours until firm.
- Remove from mold and keep frozen while preparing coating.
- Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil until smooth.
- Coat the frozen tartufo with melted chocolate quickly.
- Sprinkle with cocoa powder or nuts.
- Freeze again for 15–20 minutes before serving.

- Work quickly when coating to prevent melting.
- You can use different ice cream flavors like pistachio or strawberry.
- Alternative fillings include caramel, fruit preserves, or brownie pieces.
- Store in an airtight container to avoid freezer burn.
- Let sit 2–3 minutes before serving for best texture.
