Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon sugar (for strawberries)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Mix strawberries with 1 tablespoon sugar and cornstarch, then set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add milk and vanilla, mixing gently to form a soft dough.
- Press two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan.
- Spread strawberry mixture evenly over the base.
- Drop remaining dough in small portions over the top.
- Bake for 24–28 minutes until lightly golden and set.
- Cool before slicing into squares.

- Do not overmix dough to keep texture tender.
- Use fresh or well-drained frozen strawberries.
- Add lemon zest or cinnamon for extra flavor.
- Dust with powdered sugar for a sweeter finish.
