Description

Soft and tender biscuit-style squares filled with sweet strawberries and a hint of vanilla, creating a simple and comforting homemade dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for strawberries)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  2. Mix strawberries with 1 tablespoon sugar and cornstarch, then set aside.
  3. In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Add milk and vanilla, mixing gently to form a soft dough.
  6. Press two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan.
  7. Spread strawberry mixture evenly over the base.
  8. Drop remaining dough in small portions over the top.
  9. Bake for 24–28 minutes until lightly golden and set.
  10. Cool before slicing into squares.
