Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 smoked turkey leg or 1 1/2 cups chopped smoked turkey
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions
- Wash, trim, and snap green beans into smaller pieces.
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Sauté onion for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add smoked turkey and pour in chicken broth and water.
- Season with salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Add green beans and stir to coat.
- Cover and simmer on low for 45–60 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once tender, stir in butter.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
