A rich Hungarian layered dessert made with sponge cake, creamy custard, chocolate sauce, and crunchy walnuts, served as a luxurious trifle.
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 120 g granulated sugar
- 120 g all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 200 ml water
- 100 g sugar (for syrup)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 500 ml milk
- 4 egg yolks
- 100 g sugar (for custard)
- 40 g cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for custard)
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 150 ml heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons sugar (for sauce)
- 100 g chopped walnuts
- 200 ml whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C and bake sponge cake with eggs, sugar, flour, and vanilla for about 20 minutes. Cool and cut into cubes.
- Prepare syrup by boiling water, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla, then cool.
- Heat milk, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch, combine and cook until thickened. Add vanilla and cool.
- Heat cream with sugar, pour over chocolate, and stir until smooth to make sauce.
- Layer half of sponge cubes in a dish, drizzle syrup, add custard, walnuts, and chocolate sauce.
- Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
- Top with whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- Serve chilled in scoops.
