Description

A rich Hungarian layered dessert made with sponge cake, creamy custard, chocolate sauce, and crunchy walnuts, served as a luxurious trifle.


Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 120 g granulated sugar
  • 120 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 200 ml water
  • 100 g sugar (for syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 500 ml milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 100 g sugar (for custard)
  • 40 g cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for custard)
  • 150 g dark chocolate
  • 150 ml heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for sauce)
  • 100 g chopped walnuts
  • 200 ml whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C and bake sponge cake with eggs, sugar, flour, and vanilla for about 20 minutes. Cool and cut into cubes.
  2. Prepare syrup by boiling water, sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla, then cool.
  3. Heat milk, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch, combine and cook until thickened. Add vanilla and cool.
  4. Heat cream with sugar, pour over chocolate, and stir until smooth to make sauce.
  5. Layer half of sponge cubes in a dish, drizzle syrup, add custard, walnuts, and chocolate sauce.
  6. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  7. Top with whipped cream and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  8. Serve chilled in scoops.
