Description

Sauce Beautiful is a rich Southern-style barbecue sauce made with tomato paste, pineapple juice, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and warm spices. This smooth and flavorful sauce delivers the perfect balance of sweet, tangy, savory, and mildly spicy flavors, making it ideal for grilled meats, sandwiches, roasted vegetables, and dipping.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups chopped yellow onion
  • 4 large garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Place a large saucepan over medium heat and melt the butter completely.
  2. Add the chopped onion and smashed garlic cloves. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes while stirring constantly.
  4. Pour in the pineapple juice, water, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce.
  5. Add the brown sugar, hot sauce, black pepper, and dried thyme. Stir well to combine.
  6. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
  7. Simmer uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  8. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sauce to cool slightly.
  9. Carefully transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until completely smooth, about 30 seconds.
  10. Serve warm or cool completely before storing.

Notes

  • Add extra brown sugar or honey for a sweeter sauce.
  • Increase the hot sauce or add cayenne pepper for more heat.
  • Smoked paprika adds a deeper smoky flavor.
  • Add extra water while simmering for a thinner consistency.
  • Increase apple cider vinegar slightly for extra tanginess.
  • Roasted peppers can be blended in for added depth and sweetness.
  • Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months.
  • Add a splash of water while reheating if the sauce becomes too thick.
