Description

Oven Baked Cabbage Burger is a healthy, low-carb twist on a classic burger where roasted cabbage slices replace traditional buns and are layered with juicy seasoned meat patties, cheese, and fresh toppings for a hearty and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage head, cut into 8 thick round slices (about 2 cm each)
  • 500 g ground beef or ground chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped (about 80 g)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 60 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or yogurt sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Place cabbage slices on the tray, brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt.
  3. Bake cabbage for 20 minutes until slightly softened and caramelized.
  4. In a bowl, mix ground meat, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano.
  5. Form mixture into 4 equal patties.
  6. Place patties on a baking tray and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  7. Add cheese on top during the last 5 minutes if using.
  8. Assemble burgers using cabbage slices as buns, adding patty, tomato, lettuce, and sauce.
  9. Serve warm immediately.

Notes

  • Use thick cabbage slices to prevent breaking.
  • Do not overmix meat mixture to keep patties juicy.
  • Red cabbage can be used but has a stronger flavor.
  • Great for low-carb or lighter meal options.
  • Best served fresh after assembly.
