Description
Oven Baked Cabbage Burger is a healthy, low-carb twist on a classic burger where roasted cabbage slices replace traditional buns and are layered with juicy seasoned meat patties, cheese, and fresh toppings for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage head, cut into 8 thick round slices (about 2 cm each)
- 500 g ground beef or ground chicken
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (about 80 g)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 60 g breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
- 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or yogurt sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (392°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Place cabbage slices on the tray, brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake cabbage for 20 minutes until slightly softened and caramelized.
- In a bowl, mix ground meat, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano.
- Form mixture into 4 equal patties.
- Place patties on a baking tray and bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Add cheese on top during the last 5 minutes if using.
- Assemble burgers using cabbage slices as buns, adding patty, tomato, lettuce, and sauce.
- Serve warm immediately.
Notes
- Use thick cabbage slices to prevent breaking.
- Do not overmix meat mixture to keep patties juicy.
- Red cabbage can be used but has a stronger flavor.
- Great for low-carb or lighter meal options.
- Best served fresh after assembly.
