Description

This Moist Amish Apple Fritter Bread is a soft and tender cinnamon-swirled quick bread filled with juicy apples and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. It delivers all the cozy flavor of a bakery-style apple fritter in an easy homemade loaf.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the diced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  7. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, mixing just until combined.
  8. Spread half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  9. Spoon half of the cinnamon apple mixture over the batter.
  10. Add the remaining batter and top with the remaining apples.
  11. Gently swirl the layers with a knife.
  12. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  13. Cool the bread in the pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  14. Whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the glaze.
  15. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor balance.
  • Do not overmix the batter to keep the bread soft and tender.
  • Chopped walnuts or pecans add a delicious crunchy texture.
  • The bread tastes even better the next day after the flavors settle.
  • Allow the loaf to cool before glazing so the glaze sets properly.
  • A 1:1 gluten-free flour blend can be used if needed.
  • Store slices individually wrapped for easy freezing and reheating.
