Description

A simple and flavorful Italian sausage dish with caramelized peppers and onions, cooked in olive oil and herbs for a hearty and satisfying meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 Italian sausages (mild or spicy)
  • 2 bell peppers, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 4 crusty bread rolls or hoagie rolls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice bell peppers and onion into thin strips.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet and cook sausages for 10–12 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add remaining olive oil to the skillet and cook peppers and onions for 8–10 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.
  4. Add garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
  5. Return sausages to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes to combine flavors.
  6. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve hot, optionally in bread rolls.

  • Use spicy sausage for extra heat or mild for a sweeter flavor.
  • Add mushrooms or tomato sauce for variation.
  • Serve with rice or pasta instead of bread for a lighter option.
