Description
A simple and flavorful Italian sausage dish with caramelized peppers and onions, cooked in olive oil and herbs for a hearty and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 4 Italian sausages (mild or spicy)
- 2 bell peppers, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil or parsley, chopped (optional)
- 4 crusty bread rolls or hoagie rolls (optional)
Instructions
- Slice bell peppers and onion into thin strips.
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a skillet and cook sausages for 10–12 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining olive oil to the skillet and cook peppers and onions for 8–10 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.
- Add garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir well.
- Return sausages to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes to combine flavors.
- Garnish with fresh herbs if desired and serve hot, optionally in bread rolls.
Notes
- Use spicy sausage for extra heat or mild for a sweeter flavor.
- Add mushrooms or tomato sauce for variation.
- Serve with rice or pasta instead of bread for a lighter option.
- Reheat with a splash of oil or water to maintain moisture.
