Ingredients

  • 250 g all-purpose flour
  • 150 g sugar
  • 125 g butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 500 g pitted sour cherries
  • 5070 g sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking pan.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  3. Add sugar, egg, and vanilla, then mix into a soft dough.
  4. Chill dough for 15–20 minutes.
  5. Divide dough, roll out two-thirds, and press into pan.

  7. Roll remaining dough and place on top (full cover or lattice).
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden.
  9. Cool before slicing and serving.
