Description

Crock Pot Sloppy Joes are a hearty and comforting slow cooker sandwich filling made with savory ground beef, tomato sauce, onions, peppers, and sweet tangy seasonings. This easy family-friendly recipe creates rich homemade flavor with minimal effort, making it perfect for busy weeknights, casual gatherings, and cozy comfort-food dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder or 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef or turkey until fully browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a Crock Pot or slow cooker.
  4. Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard powder.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper, then stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours or HIGH for 2 to 3 hours.
  7. Stir the mixture well before serving. The sauce should be thick and flavorful.
  8. Toast the hamburger buns if desired and spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto each bun.
  9. Serve warm with fries, chips, salad, or roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • Ground turkey or chicken can be substituted for a lighter version.
  • Add hot sauce or jalapeños for a spicy variation.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick, stir in a splash of water or tomato sauce while reheating.
  • The filling freezes very well for meal prep.
  • Brioche buns add extra richness and flavor.
