Description
A hearty and comforting hobo casserole made with layers of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, creamy sauce, and melted cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (300 g) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F) and grease a baking dish.
- Cook ground beef in a skillet until browned, then add onion and cook until soft. Drain excess fat.
- Season beef with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Mix cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
- Layer potatoes, beef mixture, soup mixture, and cheese in the dish.
- Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and potatoes are tender.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

- Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking.
- Drain excess fat from beef to avoid greasiness.
- Add vegetables like peas or carrots for variation.
