Healthy Nutella is a smooth, creamy chocolate-hazelnut spread made with wholesome ingredients and naturally sweetened for a healthier twist on the classic favorite. Perfect for toast, pancakes, fruit, or spoonfuls straight from the jar, this homemade version is rich, nutty, and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- 2 cups raw hazelnuts
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 cup milk of choice
- 2 ounces dark chocolate, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Spread the hazelnuts on a baking sheet in a single layer.
- Roast the hazelnuts for 10 to 12 minutes until fragrant and lightly golden.
- Transfer the warm hazelnuts to a clean kitchen towel and rub them together to remove most of the skins.
- Add the hazelnuts to a food processor or high-speed blender and blend for several minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup or honey, melted coconut oil, vanilla extract, sea salt, milk, and melted dark chocolate.
- Blend again until completely smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.
- If the mixture is too thick, add an extra tablespoon of milk until the desired consistency is reached.
- Transfer the Healthy Nutella to a clean jar or airtight container.
- Allow it to cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Use roasted hazelnuts to save preparation time.
- Add a pinch of cinnamon or espresso powder for extra depth of flavor.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- Let chilled spread sit at room temperature before serving for a softer texture.
- Use almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
