Description

A classic old-fashioned vinegar pie with a sweet and tangy custard-like filling, made from simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F) and place pie crust in a 9-inch dish.
  2. Whisk sugar and flour together in a bowl.
  3. Add eggs and whisk until smooth.
  4. Slowly whisk in melted butter.
  5. Add vinegar, water, vanilla, and salt, mixing well.
  6. Pour filling into pie crust.
  7. Sprinkle nutmeg evenly over the top.
  8. Bake for 45–50 minutes until edges are set and center slightly jiggles.
  9. Cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  10. Slice and serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Center should jiggle slightly when done.
  • Chilling helps the filling set properly.
  • Use apple cider vinegar for best flavor.
  • Can add cinnamon instead of nutmeg.
  • Serve with whipped cream if desired.
