Description

Fried Tofu is a crispy, savory plant-based dish made with firm tofu coated in a seasoned cornstarch mixture and pan-fried until golden and crunchy on the outside while staying soft inside. It is versatile, protein-rich, and perfect for bowls, stir-fries, salads, or snacks.

Ingredients

  • 1 block firm tofu (about 14 oz / 396 g)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Press tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut tofu into cubes and toss with soy sauce.
  3. Mix cornstarch, nutritional yeast, and spices in a bowl.
  4. Coat tofu evenly in the seasoning mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry tofu in a single layer until golden and crispy on all sides.
  7. Transfer to paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite sauce or meal.

Notes

  • Pressing tofu is essential for crispiness.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to avoid soggy tofu.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.
  • Can be baked or air-fried for a lighter option.
  • Add spices or sauces to customize flavor.
