Description

Ingredients

  • For the fish:
  • 1 1/2 pounds white fish fillets (cod, haddock, tilapia, or pollock)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • For serving:
  • 4 cups fries
  • 2 cups coleslaw
  • Lemon wedges
  • 1/2 cup tartar sauce or garlic mayo

Instructions

  1. Pat fish fillets dry and cut into serving-sized pieces.
  2. Mix flour, cornmeal, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, parsley, and cayenne in a bowl.
  3. Whisk eggs, milk, and lemon juice in another bowl.
  4. Dip fish into egg mixture, then coat well in flour mixture.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry fish in batches for 3–5 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  7. Remove and place on a wire rack or paper towels.
  8. Prepare fries according to instructions or fry until crisp.
  9. Serve fish hot with fries, coleslaw, lemon wedges, and dipping sauce.
