Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter or shortening, chilled and cut into pieces
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk, room temperature
- 1/4 cup milk
- 10 medium apples, peeled and thinly sliced or chopped
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup crushed corn flakes
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (plus more if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease an 11×15-inch pan.
- In a bowl, mix apples, sugar, cinnamon, and crushed corn flakes. Set aside.
- In another bowl, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly.
- Mix egg yolk with milk, then add to flour mixture to form dough.
- Divide dough in half and roll out one portion larger than the pan.
- Place dough in pan and spread apple filling evenly.
- Roll out second portion of dough and place over apples. Seal edges and cut slits on top.
- Brush top with beaten egg.
- Bake for about 40 minutes until golden and apples are tender.
- While warm, whisk powdered sugar and milk, then drizzle over cake.
- Cool completely before slicing into bars.
