Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups milk (or water, or a mix)
- 1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
- 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil (optional)
- Fresh fruit, nuts, or seeds for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Soak chopped dates in warm water for 5–10 minutes to soften.
- In a saucepan, heat milk and salt over medium heat until simmering.
- Add oats and reduce heat to low.
- Drain dates and add them along with cinnamon.
- Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally until desired consistency.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Add honey or maple syrup if extra sweetness is desired.
- Serve warm with toppings of choice.
