Description

Cream Puff Dessert is a chilled layered dessert featuring a light baked pastry crust, creamy vanilla pudding-cream cheese filling, fluffy whipped topping, and a chocolate drizzle. It delivers classic cream puff flavor in an easy 9×13-inch pan dessert perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 large eggs
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups cold whole milk
  • 2 packages instant vanilla pudding mix (3.4 ounces each)
  • 8 ounces whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/4 cup chocolate syrup (or as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, combine water and butter. Bring to a boil over medium heat until butter melts.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in flour all at once until dough forms a ball and pulls away from sides.
  4. Transfer dough to a bowl and cool for 5 minutes.
  5. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until smooth.
  6. Spread dough evenly into prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Cool completely.
  8. Beat cream cheese until smooth in a large bowl.
  9. Gradually add milk, then mix in instant pudding until thick and creamy.
  10. Spread filling over cooled crust.
  11. Top with whipped topping evenly.
  12. Drizzle chocolate syrup over the top.
  13. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Crust may puff unevenly, which is normal for this type of pastry.
  • Ensure crust is fully cooled before adding filling to prevent melting.
  • Best results come from chilling for longer than 2 hours.
  • Stabilized whipped cream can replace whipped topping if desired.
  • Do not freeze, as texture may become watery after thawing.
  • Optional additions include fruit layers, caramel drizzle, or nuts.
