Ingredients

  • Whole milk 2 cups

  • Unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 cup
  • Cornstarch 3 tablespoons
  • Salt 1/4 teaspoon
  • Dark chocolate 4 ounces finely chopped
  • Egg yolks 2 large
  • Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Whisk sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens.
  4. Lightly beat egg yolks and temper with a small amount of hot mixture.
  5. Return yolk mixture to saucepan and cook until thick and smooth.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate, butter, and vanilla until melted.
  7. Pour into serving dishes and press plastic wrap onto surface.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
