Ingredients
- 2 chai tea bags
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk (whole or plant-based)
Instructions
- Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan or kettle.
- Add the chai tea bags and steep for 5 minutes.
- Remove the tea bags, squeezing out excess liquid into the pot.
- Stir in sugar and vanilla extract until dissolved.
- In a separate small saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling (or microwave for 1–1½ minutes).
- Optional: Froth the milk using a milk frother or shake in a jar and microwave for foam.
- Pour the chai mixture into a mug and top with steamed milk.
- Stir gently and optionally top with whipped cream, cinnamon, or nutmeg.
- Serve hot and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use decaf chai for a caffeine-free version.
- Try honey, maple syrup, or vanilla syrup instead of sugar.
- Make it iced by cooling the chai and serving over ice with cold milk.
- Add extra spices like ginger or cardamom for a bolder flavor.
- Use oat or almond milk for a dairy-free alternative.
- Double the recipe for serving guests or meal prep.
- Store leftover chai base in the fridge for up to 24 hours and reheat with fresh milk.
