Description

These sweet potato fries are crispy on the outside and tender inside, seasoned with warm spices and paired with a creamy cilantro yogurt sauce. This easy and flavorful dish works perfectly as a snack, side, or appetizer.

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into thin fries
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Peel and cut the sweet potatoes into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Place the fries in a bowl and pat them dry if needed.
  4. Add cornstarch and toss until lightly coated.
  5. Drizzle with olive oil, then add paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat evenly.
  6. Spread the fries in a single layer on the baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, then flip the fries.
  8. Bake for another 12–15 minutes until tender and lightly crisped.
  9. In a small bowl, mix yogurt, cilantro, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and olive oil until smooth.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  11. Serve fries hot with the cilantro yogurt sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Pat the sweet potatoes dry to help them crisp better in the oven.
  • Do not overcrowd the baking sheet; use two trays if necessary.
  • For extra crispiness, bake slightly longer or use an air fryer.
  • Use smoked paprika for a deeper flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven or air fryer.
  • The yogurt sauce can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
