Ingredients
- 1 large green cabbage (about 2 to 2 1/2 pounds)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 to 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the whole cabbage for 5–7 minutes until leaves soften. Cool and separate leaves.
- In a bowl, mix ground beef, rice, onion, garlic, egg, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Place filling on each cabbage leaf, fold sides, and roll tightly.
- Mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Arrange rolls seam-side down in a pot or baking dish and pour sauce over them.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 45–60 minutes until cabbage is tender and filling is cooked.
- Serve hot, garnished with parsley if desired.
