Description
Southern Sausage Biscuits are flaky, buttery biscuits wrapped around savory breakfast sausage, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a comforting snack. Easy to make and kid-friendly, they’re great fresh or reheated for a make-ahead meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
- ¾ cup buttermilk
- 8 halal breakfast sausage links or patties, fully cooked
- Optional for serving: honey or maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add cold cubed butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and roll to ½-inch thickness.
- Cut into rectangles or rounds large enough to wrap around each sausage.
- Place one cooked sausage on each dough piece and wrap, pinching edges to seal.
- Place wrapped sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm, optionally with honey or maple syrup.
Notes
- Add shredded cheese to the dough for extra flavor.
- Freeze unbaked wrapped biscuits and bake from frozen with a few extra minutes.
- Keep butter and dough cold for the flakiest texture.
- Use margarine as a butter substitute if needed.
