Description

Southern Sausage Biscuits are flaky, buttery biscuits wrapped around savory breakfast sausage, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a comforting snack. Easy to make and kid-friendly, they’re great fresh or reheated for a make-ahead meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 8 halal breakfast sausage links or patties, fully cooked
  • Optional for serving: honey or maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add cold cubed butter and cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and roll to ½-inch thickness.
  6. Cut into rectangles or rounds large enough to wrap around each sausage.
  7. Place one cooked sausage on each dough piece and wrap, pinching edges to seal.
  8. Place wrapped sausages seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving warm, optionally with honey or maple syrup.

Notes

  • Add shredded cheese to the dough for extra flavor.
  • Freeze unbaked wrapped biscuits and bake from frozen with a few extra minutes.
  • Keep butter and dough cold for the flakiest texture.
  • Use margarine as a butter substitute if needed.
