Description

Soft Pretzel Bites are warm, chewy, and golden brown with the signature pretzel flavor. Quick to make in about an hour, they’re perfect for parties, game days, or snacking, and can be enjoyed salty or sweet.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant or active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
  • Coarse salt or sea salt, for topping
  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 9 cups water (for baking soda bath)
  • Optional: 2 tablespoons melted butter + 1/2 cup cinnamon sugar (for sweet version)

Instructions

  1. Whisk warm water, yeast, and sugar together in a bowl. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add salt, melted butter, and flour. Mix until dough forms.
  3. Knead dough for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let rest 10–30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C). Line baking sheets with parchment.
  5. Roll dough into long ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Bring 9 cups water and baking soda to a boil. Drop dough pieces into boiling water for 10–15 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on prepared baking sheet.
  7. Sprinkle with coarse salt (or leave plain for sweet version).
  8. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For sweet pretzels, brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar while warm.

Notes

  • Sprinkle everything bagel seasoning instead of salt for extra flavor.
  • Serve with cheese dip, mustard, or even chocolate sauce for sweet bites.
  • If freezing, skip the salt topping. Add it after reheating.
  • Bread flour gives a chewier texture, while all-purpose works fine.
  • Always use the baking soda bath for authentic pretzel flavor.
