Description

A comforting and hearty baked dish combining creamy sausage gravy with soft, golden biscuits. Perfect for brunch, dinner, or any time you want a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

  • 450 g beef or chicken sausage, casings removed
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 can (340 g) refrigerated biscuits
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for egg wash)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Grease a 23 cm (9-inch) pie dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned, breaking it into small pieces. Remove and set aside.
  3. Melt butter in the same skillet, then whisk in flour. Cook for 1 minute until golden.
  4. Gradually add milk while whisking. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Stir in salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cooked sausage. Remove from heat.
  6. Cut each biscuit into quarters and spread evenly in the pie dish.
  7. Pour sausage gravy over biscuits, spreading evenly.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk egg with 2 tablespoons milk. Drizzle over pie.
  9. Top with shredded cheddar if using.
  10. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown and set in the center.
  11. Let rest 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use spiced sausage or add chili flakes for a kick.
  • Add veggies like sautéed onions or bell peppers to the gravy.
  • Homemade or low-fat biscuits can be used as a substitute.
  • Omit cheese for a lighter version.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the oven or microwave.
