Description
A juicy homemade beef burger topped with savory sautéed mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese. Quick to prepare and full of rich, umami flavor—perfect for casual meals or weekend grilling.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, 80/20
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter or olive oil
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 4 burger buns
- Optional toppings:
- 1 cup lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1/2 cup pickle slices
- 1/2 cup caramelized onions
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp mustard
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter or olive oil. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and tender. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Divide ground beef into four equal portions and form into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness or until cooked to your liking.
- During the last minute of cooking, place one slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover briefly to melt the cheese.
- If desired, lightly toast the burger buns until warm and golden.
- Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on the bottom bun. Top with sautéed mushrooms and optional toppings such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, caramelized onions, mayo, or mustard.
- Finish with the top bun and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a cast iron skillet or grill pan for best sear on the patties.
- Do not press down on patties while cooking to retain juices.
- Make mushrooms in advance to save prep time.
- For a low-carb version, serve without the bun or over salad greens.
