Hungarian-style Fasírt are crispy, golden meat patties with a tender, flavorful interior made from seasoned ground meat and softened bread. A comforting and versatile dish perfect for everyday meals.
Ingredients
- 500 g ground beef (or a mix of beef and chicken)
- 2 slices white bread
- 100 ml milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)
- oil for frying
Instructions
- Soak the bread in milk for 5 minutes, then squeeze out excess liquid.
- In a bowl, combine ground meat, soaked bread, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, parsley, and breadcrumbs.
- Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into oval or round patties.
- Coat each patty lightly in breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Fry patties for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
Notes
- Substitute part of the meat with chicken for a lighter version.
- Add grated vegetables like carrot or zucchini for extra moisture.
- Bake at 180°C for 25 minutes as a healthier alternative.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Freeze cooked or uncooked patties for up to 2 months.
- Reheat gently in a skillet or oven to maintain texture.
