Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm milk (110°F or 45°C)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 tablespoon sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms. You can use a stand mixer or mix by hand.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer for 5-7 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide into 12 pieces, roll into ropes, and coil into spiral shapes. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover rolls with a towel and let rise for 30-45 minutes until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
