Description

This creamy one-ingredient banana ice cream is a naturally sweet, dairy-free treat made entirely from ripe bananas. With no added sugar or equipment needed beyond a food processor, it’s a healthy dessert option that’s quick, easy, and endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

  • 1 large ripe banana (about 150170 g), peeled and chopped
  • Optional mix-ins: 1 tablespoon peanut butter, 1 tablespoon honey, 1–2 tablespoons chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon almonds, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, cardamom, or ginger

Instructions

  1. Peel the ripe banana and chop it into evenly sized pieces.
  2. Place the banana pieces in an airtight freezer-safe container or freezer bag.
  3. Freeze for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, until completely solid.
  4. Transfer the frozen banana pieces to a small food processor or high-speed blender. Pulse several times to break them up.
  5. Scrape down the sides as needed. The mixture will look crumbly at first.
  6. Continue processing; the banana will move from crumbly to gooey, resembling thick banana mash.
  7. Keep blending until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy, similar to soft-serve ice cream.
  8. If adding mix-ins such as peanut butter, honey, chocolate chips, or spices, blend them in at this stage.
  9. Serve immediately for soft-serve texture, or transfer to an airtight container and freeze 1–2 hours for firmer, scoopable ice cream.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for best sweetness and texture.
  • A food processor works best, but a high-speed blender can be used with patience.
  • Let the ice cream sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before scooping if frozen solid.
  • Customize with your favorite flavors like cocoa, nut butters, or spices.
