Description

A crispy, juicy honey butter fried chicken sandwich that combines savory fried chicken thighs with a sweet and glossy honey butter coating, all served on a toasted bun. The perfect balance of spicy, salty, and sweet flavors.

Ingredients

  • Canola oil, for frying
  • 5 boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper or chipotle seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • Seasoned Flour:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper or chipotle seasoning
  • Dredging:
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Honey Butter:
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • To Serve:
  • 5 toasted sandwich buns
  • Optional toppings: pickles, coleslaw, cheese, lettuce

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Season chicken thighs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne or chipotle seasoning.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour with additional salt, pepper, and cayenne/chipotle. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.
  4. Dredge chicken: coat in flour, dip in buttermilk, then coat again in flour. Repeat for all pieces.
  5. Fry chicken until golden brown and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Make honey butter: melt butter with honey in a small pot, bring to a boil, then simmer for 3–4 minutes.
  7. Brush or spoon the honey butter over the fried chicken.
  8. Serve on toasted buns with desired toppings.

Notes

  • Use chicken breasts if preferred, but pound thin for even cooking.
  • Pickle juice can be added to buttermilk for extra tang.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days; reheat in oven at 375°F.
  • Air fryer option: cook at 375°F for 18–20 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Make honey butter ahead and store in fridge; reheat before use.
