Description

A creamy, comforting one-pan casserole made with ground beef, green beans, cheese, and a savory mushroom sauce, all topped with crispy fried onions. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 3 cans (14.5 oz each) cut green beans, drained
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or Colby Jack)
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions
  • Butter or cooking spray, for greasing dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion. Add garlic if using. Cook until beef is browned and onion is soft. Drain excess grease.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Add the cooked beef mixture, drained green beans, and 1 cup of shredded cheese to the sauce. Stir to combine evenly.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Top with remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and crispy fried onions.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden. If you want extra crispy onions, add them during the last 5–10 minutes of baking.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen green beans if preferred—just blanch before using.
  • Swap cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken or celery for variety.
  • Add jalapeños or chili flakes to make it spicy.
  • Top with crackers or breadcrumbs instead of fried onions for a lighter option.
  • Can be made ahead and baked later.
