Description

Elegant bite-sized puff pastry appetizers topped with creamy goat cheese and sweet fruit preserves, finished with a flaky golden crust and optional garnish for a perfect party snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 5 oz goat cheese
  • 1/4 cup jam or preserves of choice (such as strawberry, apricot, or guava)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons garnish of choice (chopped nuts, fresh herbs, or dried fruit)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk to make an egg wash.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface if needed, then cut it into rectangles about 2 x 3 inches.
  4. Place the pastry rectangles on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each one.
  5. Use a fork to gently press along the edges of each rectangle to create a border.
  6. Brush the edges of each pastry rectangle with the egg wash.
  7. Spoon about 2 teaspoons of goat cheese into the center of each rectangle, then top with about 2 teaspoons of jam or preserves.
  8. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt and add your chosen garnish before serving.

Notes

  • You can customize these appetizers with different jams such as fig, blackberry, orange marmalade, or guava.
  • For a milder flavor, substitute goat cheese with cream cheese or a soft herbed cheese.
  • For a savory version, skip the jam and drizzle honey over the cheese before baking.
  • Fresh herbs, chopped nuts, citrus zest, or dried fruit all make excellent garnishes.
  • These appetizers are best served warm but also taste good at room temperature.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in an oven or air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes to maintain crispness.
  • Avoid microwaving, as it can make the puff pastry soft instead of flaky.
