Ingredients
For the Dough:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon salt
For the Filling:
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
6 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tablespoon dried)
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the Topping:
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Extra parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the mixture and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Once the yeast is frothy, add melted butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well.
- Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Let it rise for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, mix softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a 12×18-inch rectangle. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log from the long edge. Slice into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish or on a lined baking sheet.
- Let the rolls rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Optionally, top with Parmesan cheese and extra parsley for garnish.
Notes
- For a cheesy version, add shredded mozzarella or cheddar to the garlic filling.
- Experiment with different herbs like rosemary or thyme for added flavor in the garlic butter mixture.
- If you prefer spice, add red pepper flakes to the garlic filling.
- These rolls can be made ahead by refrigerating the dough overnight after shaping. Allow them to rise before baking the next day.
- For dairy-free rolls, substitute the butter with a non-dairy alternative like margarine and use plant-based milk.
