Description
These easy sweet flatbreads are quick to make, requiring no yeast, and are pan-fried until golden before being brushed with honey butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. They’re warm, crisp, soft inside, and perfect as a sweet treat or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 to 1/3 cup vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add boiling water, stirring until a loose dough forms.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 2 minutes until smooth. Cover and rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide dough into tablespoon-sized pieces. Roll or press each into a thin oval or round shape.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter and honey. Set aside.
- Heat 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
- Fry flatbreads a few at a time for 20–25 seconds per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
- While warm, brush each flatbread with honey butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Roll the dough very thin (2–3 mm) for a tender and crisp result.
- Try maple syrup or agave instead of honey for a different sweetness.
- Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in a skillet or oven.
- Spices like nutmeg or allspice can be added to the dough for variation.
