Description

A warm, cozy apple crisp with tender spiced apples topped with a golden, crunchy oat topping. Simple to make and perfect for fall, this dessert is delicious on its own or served with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 6 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cold butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish.
  2. Toss sliced apples with white sugar and ½ teaspoon cinnamon. Spread evenly in the baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour, and remaining cinnamon.
  4. Cut in cold butter using a pastry blender or two knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples and press down gently.
  6. Bake 40 minutes, until topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
  7. Cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Use a mix of apple varieties (like Granny Smith and Gala) for balanced flavor.
  • Add lemon juice to apples for brightness.
  • Swap some flour for chopped nuts for extra crunch.
  • Top with caramel sauce, whipped cream, or ice cream for serving.
  • Quick oats can be used for a softer topping.
