Description
This easy homemade apple cider is a warm, spiced drink perfect for fall and winter. Made in a slow cooker with fresh apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, and brown sugar, it’s cozy, aromatic, and ideal for gatherings or quiet evenings.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle (64 fl oz) apple cider
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon whole allspice
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1 piece of cheesecloth (about 8-inch square)
- Kitchen twine or string
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into your slow cooker.
- Add the cinnamon sticks directly into the cider.
- Place the whole allspice and whole cloves in the center of the cheesecloth.
- Gather the edges of the cheesecloth and tie with kitchen twine to create a spice pouch.
- Place the spice pouch into the slow cooker.
- Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
- Cover and cook on High for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until steaming and hot.
- Switch the slow cooker to Low or Warm to keep hot for serving.
- Remove the spice pouch before serving.
- Ladle into mugs and serve warm. Garnish with cinnamon sticks, apple slices, or a splash of spiced rum if desired.
Notes
- Add citrus slices (orange or lemon) for a twist.
- Use pre-mixed mulling spices instead of individual spices.
- Add fresh ginger for an extra kick.
- Spike with rum or bourbon for an adult version.
- Reduce or omit sugar for a less sweet version.
