Description

This easy homemade apple cider is a warm, spiced drink perfect for fall and winter. Made in a slow cooker with fresh apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, and brown sugar, it’s cozy, aromatic, and ideal for gatherings or quiet evenings.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (64 fl oz) apple cider
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon whole allspice
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 piece of cheesecloth (about 8-inch square)
  • Kitchen twine or string

Instructions

  1. Pour the apple cider into your slow cooker.
  2. Add the cinnamon sticks directly into the cider.
  3. Place the whole allspice and whole cloves in the center of the cheesecloth.
  4. Gather the edges of the cheesecloth and tie with kitchen twine to create a spice pouch.
  5. Place the spice pouch into the slow cooker.
  6. Stir in the brown sugar until dissolved.
  7. Cover and cook on High for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until steaming and hot.
  8. Switch the slow cooker to Low or Warm to keep hot for serving.
  9. Remove the spice pouch before serving.
  10. Ladle into mugs and serve warm. Garnish with cinnamon sticks, apple slices, or a splash of spiced rum if desired.

Notes

  • Add citrus slices (orange or lemon) for a twist.
  • Use pre-mixed mulling spices instead of individual spices.
  • Add fresh ginger for an extra kick.
  • Spike with rum or bourbon for an adult version.
  • Reduce or omit sugar for a less sweet version.
  • Add more spices like star anise for bold flavor.
  • Make on the stovetop if slow cooker is unavailable.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat gently on stovetop or microwave before serving.
  • Freeze if needed, though texture may change slightly.
