Description

This easy Salisbury steak recipe features juicy beef patties simmered in a rich mushroom gravy—all ready in just 30 minutes. It’s a comforting, one-skillet meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights and family dinners.

Ingredients

  • For the Salisbury steak patties:
  • 1 pound ground beef (80–85% lean)
  • 1/3 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • For the mushroom gravy:
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire-style sauce (halal-friendly)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined and shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add mushrooms and sauté for 4–5 minutes until browned.
  4. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir for 1 minute to cook the flour.
  5. Gradually add beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Add Worcestershire-style sauce, salt, and pepper.
  6. Bring to a gentle simmer, then return patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer on low for 8–10 minutes until cooked through and gravy thickens.

Notes

  • Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Add sliced onions to the gravy for more flavor.
  • Stir in 2 tablespoons of cream at the end for a creamier sauce.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
