Ingredients
- 1 pound halal beef or chicken Italian-style sausage
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for 3–5 minutes until vegetables begin to soften.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread 1/2 cup of marinara sauce on the bottom.
- In a bowl, combine cooked sausage and vegetables with 1 cup marinara and 1 cup mozzarella. Stir to combine.
- Transfer the mixture to the baking dish and spread evenly.
- Top with the remaining 2 cups of mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Broil for 3–5 minutes for a golden top if desired.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
