Ingredients
- 2 pounds chicken wings, split into flats and drumettes
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 5 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
- Optional garnish: 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or green onion
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil and place a wire rack on top.
- Pat chicken wings dry. Toss with baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, cornstarch, and vegetable oil until coated.
- Arrange wings in single layer on rack; bake 20 minutes, flip, and bake another 20–25 minutes until golden and crisp.
- While baking, make sauce: melt butter in saucepan over medium heat, add minced garlic for 30 seconds.
- Stir in honey, soy sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, and rice vinegar; simmer 2–3 minutes.
- Mix cornstarch and water to make slurry; stir into sauce until thickened and glossy.
- Transfer baked wings to a clean bowl, pour sauce over, and toss to coat.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped parsley or green onion. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Dry the wings well for maximum crispiness.
- Adjust spice with chili flakes, smoked paprika, or sesame oil if desired.
- Can be made in air fryer at 400°F, cooking in batches 18–22 minutes, turning halfway.
- Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 3 days; reheat in oven or air fryer for best texture.
- Sauce can be made ahead and reheated before tossing with wings.
