Description

Ingredients

  • 8 oz dried beef, chopped and rinsed, then patted dry
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 4 slices white or sandwich bread, toasted

Instructions

  1. Rinse the dried beef under cool water to remove excess salt. Pat dry and chop into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a medium skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute to form a smooth roux.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
  5. Add the heavy cream and continue stirring until the sauce thickens, about 3–5 minutes.
  6. Stir in the chopped dried beef, black pepper, and nutmeg if using.
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2–3 minutes until heated through.
  8. Spoon the creamed beef over toasted bread and serve immediately.
