Ingredients
- 32 oz frozen crinkle-cut French fries
- ¾ tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp cracked black pepper
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- ½ cup sweet yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cheddar cheese soup
- 2 tbsp half and half
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 3 cups mild cheddar cheese, freshly grated (divided)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and coat with cooking spray.
- Spread fries in a single layer on the baking sheet. Season with salt and pepper. Bake for 20–25 minutes until lightly golden and crisp.
- Meanwhile, cook ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat until browned (about 5–7 minutes). Drain excess fat.
- Reduce heat to medium and stir in mushroom soup, cheddar cheese soup, half and half, and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 2 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread the beef mixture in an even layer. Top with 1 cup of shredded cheese.
- Arrange baked fries on top of the cheese layer. Sprinkle remaining 2 cups of cheese over the fries.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbling. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Add bell peppers, mushrooms, or frozen peas for extra vegetables.
- For added creaminess, stir in another tablespoon of half and half.
