Description
Cinnamon Swirl Bread French Toast is a quick and comforting breakfast made with thick slices of cinnamon swirl bread dipped in a vanilla egg custard and pan-fried until golden. It’s soft on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, and full of cozy cinnamon flavor.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup whole milk (or any milk of choice)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 slices cinnamon swirl bread (preferably thick-cut)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, for frying
- Optional toppings: maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh berries
Instructions
- In a shallow dish, whisk together the milk, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
- Dip each slice of cinnamon swirl bread into the custard mixture, soaking both sides for a few seconds. Do not oversoak.
- Heat a nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely and foam.
- Place soaked bread slices in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes on one side until golden brown.
- Flip and cook the other side for 1–2 more minutes, until golden and cooked through.
- Remove from skillet and serve immediately with your favorite toppings like maple syrup or fresh berries.
Notes
- Use slightly stale or thick-sliced bread for best texture.
- Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the custard for extra spice if desired.
- Can be made dairy-free with plant-based milk and butter alternatives.
- Freeze leftovers with parchment between slices and reheat in the toaster or oven.
- Great with a side of yogurt, nut butter, or chopped nuts for added nutrition and crunch.
