Description
This Cinnamon Sugar French Toast features thick slices of brioche soaked in a rich custard, fried until golden and crispy, and coated in a warm cinnamon sugar blend. It’s a sweet, indulgent breakfast that’s simple to make and perfect for weekends or special mornings.
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 2 cups half-and-half
- 1 loaf brioche bread, sliced into 1-inch thick slices
- Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon to make the cinnamon sugar. Set aside.
- In a large shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and half-and-half until fully combined.
- Dip each slice of brioche into the egg mixture, soaking both sides for a few minutes without letting them get too soggy.
- Heat about 1 inch of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, add the soaked bread slices in batches. Fry each side for 2–3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer cooked slices to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
- While still warm, coat each slice generously in the cinnamon sugar mixture by dipping or sprinkling.
- Serve immediately with maple syrup, honey, or your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Use day-old brioche for best texture and to prevent sogginess.
- Challah or French bread are great alternatives to brioche.
- Mix in a pinch of nutmeg or orange zest to the custard for added flavor.
- Swap half-and-half with whole milk for a lighter version, or use dairy-free alternatives.
- Reheat in a toaster oven to restore crispiness.
