Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1 cup dark chocolate chunks or chips
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in warm milk and let sit until frothy.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, eggs, vanilla, and orange zest, mixing into a sticky dough.
- Knead in softened butter until smooth and elastic.
- Fold in chocolate chunks evenly.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1.5–2 hours.
- Punch down and shape into a ball, then place in a panettone mold.
- Let rise again for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Brush top with milk and melted butter.
- Bake for 35–45 minutes until golden and cooked through.
- Cool completely before slicing.
