Description
A rich and creamy chocolate banana pudding layered with fresh bananas, soft cookies, and velvety homemade chocolate pudding for a comforting dessert.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 package vanilla wafers or similar cookies
- 1 cup whipped cream or whipped topping
Instructions
- In a saucepan, whisk sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
- Gradually whisk in milk until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, then slowly add some hot mixture to temper.
- Return egg mixture to the saucepan and cook for 2–3 minutes until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
- Layer cookies, bananas, and pudding in a dish.
- Repeat layers and finish with whipped cream.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- Add chocolate chips or shaved chocolate for extra richness.
- Use chocolate cookies for a deeper flavor.
- Layer with caramel for a twist.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Best served chilled; do not freeze.
- Cover bananas with pudding to reduce browning.
