Description
This chicken piccata features tender chicken cutlets simmered in a bright, lemony caper sauce. It’s a quick, flavorful dish made without wine—perfect for weeknights or elegant dinners, and completely halal.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup all-purpose flour, for dredging
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ⅓ cup fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup capers, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
- Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Slice each chicken breast horizontally to create thin cutlets. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Place flour in a shallow bowl and dredge each cutlet, shaking off excess.
- Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook 3–4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through. Set aside and keep warm.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add garlic to the skillet and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in chicken broth, scraping up browned bits. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to reduce slightly.
- Add lemon juice and capers. Simmer for another 2 minutes.
- Stir in remaining 1 tablespoon butter until melted and sauce is smooth.
- Return chicken to the skillet and spoon sauce over the top. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
- Remove from heat, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and garnish with lemon slices if desired. Serve warm.

- Reduce lemon juice to ¼ cup for a milder flavor.
- Stir in sautéed spinach or mushrooms for added veggies.
- Add 2 tablespoons cooking cream for a creamier variation.
