Cheesy Parmesan and Spinach Cheese Twists are the perfect combination of crispy, flaky pastry and creamy, savory filling. Made with puff pastry, Parmesan, mozzarella, and fresh spinach, these delightful twists are an irresistible appetizer or snack that’s easy to prepare and loved by everyone.
Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
1 cup fresh spinach (chopped)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup cream cheese (softened)
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper to taste
1 egg (for egg wash)
1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1 minute, or until fragrant.
- Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes, until wilted. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the spinach mixture with the cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, mozzarella cheese, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the spinach and cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the pastry.
- Carefully fold the pastry in half, sealing the edges. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice the pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
- Twist each strip gently and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water for the egg wash. Brush the tops of each twist with the egg wash for a golden, glossy finish.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the twists are golden and puffed.
- Serve warm as an appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Experiment with different cheeses, like cheddar, gouda, or fontina, for a unique flavor twist.
- For a spicy kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the spinach filling.
- For a vegan option, use plant-based puff pastry and vegan cheese substitutes.
- If using frozen spinach, make sure to thaw and squeeze out excess moisture before adding it to the filling.
- Store baked twists in an airtight container for up to 2 days, or freeze unbaked twists for up to 1 month.
- These cheese twists pair wonderfully with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or pesto sauce.
