Description
Soft homemade bread rolled around seasoned ground beef and melted cheese, baked to golden perfection for a hearty, comforting meal.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm milk, water, melted butter, and egg; knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 1 hour.
- Heat olive oil in skillet, sauté onion and bell pepper 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Add ground beef and seasonings; cook until browned. Cool slightly.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Punch down dough, roll into 12×16 inch rectangle. Spread beef mixture evenly, leaving border. Sprinkle cheeses over top.
- Roll dough tightly, pinch seam and ends. Place seam-side down on tray. Mix egg yolk with milk and brush over top. Sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
- Bake 25–30 minutes until golden. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
Notes
- Cheese types can be substituted or mixed to taste.
- Extra vegetables can be added to filling.
- Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated.
- Freeze baked rolls for up to 2 months; reheat in oven before serving.
