Description

Soft homemade bread rolled around seasoned ground beef and melted cheese, baked to golden perfection for a hearty, comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, optional

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Add warm milk, water, melted butter, and egg; knead 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 1 hour.
  2. Heat olive oil in skillet, sauté onion and bell pepper 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Add ground beef and seasonings; cook until browned. Cool slightly.
  3. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  4. Punch down dough, roll into 12×16 inch rectangle. Spread beef mixture evenly, leaving border. Sprinkle cheeses over top.
  5. Roll dough tightly, pinch seam and ends. Place seam-side down on tray. Mix egg yolk with milk and brush over top. Sprinkle sesame seeds if desired.
  6. Bake 25–30 minutes until golden. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

  • Cheese types can be substituted or mixed to taste.
  • Extra vegetables can be added to filling.
  • Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated.
